Thursday, March 15, 2012: MalindiIn the afternoon, we left our hotel with several porters and took a shuttle ferry to the airfield on Manda Island where we boarded a small two-engine propeller aircraft to Malindi. Due to the low-altitude flight along the coastline, we had great sights of both the Indian Ocean and the mainland. Arriving at Malindi airport, we were already awaited to be whisked to the hotel with our ill society member. |

Wednesday, March 21, 2012: NairobiOn this day we left the Indian Ocean and were brought to the airport by a Kenyan acquaintance of ours and his assistants whom we bid farewell using the Swahili words "kwa heri ya kuonana" — until next year! Having arrived at Nairobi airport, Bishop Kahuthu awaited us personally and carried us with him to the mountainous highlands at approximately 7500 feet above sea level. After this excursion, we drove back to Nairobi for lunch.Thursday, March 22, 2012: NairobiAfter breakfast, we paid a farewell visit to the bishop and other church employees. Our project coordinator briefed him on the projects we had visited. During this meeting, our society additionally received the receipts and certificates on the use of the tuition fees we paid during the last years. A female member of our society and our project coordinator then met the women's affairs representative of the KELC who is working for her church on a nation-wide level. Our member who had led a women's circle for 30 years in her south German parish presented details of the women's events she had organized back home. The KELC's women's representative remarked that she would offer training and seminars for women and support groups of widows who are producing handicraft work whose proceeds are being used to finance their groups. The women would furthermore be trained for independence and are receiving legal advice. In the Youth Center we met delegates from local parishes. They assembled on that day for discussing topics regarding the alteration of their church's statutes. After this, we met an acquaintance of our project coordinator from Kulesa whom he is knowing well for more than thirty years. Although already having paid the tuition fees and given our donations supporting their livelihood, the father of a highland family came to Nairobi for meeting us a second time before we parted, expressing again his sincere thanks for our donations before he handed over a letter of thanks addressed to one of our donors. In order to support two other individuals whom we found selling handicrafts, we purchased several of their articles. After dinner we had to leave Kenya at last. At exactly 11:40 p.m. our flight back to Paris and Stuttgart started in Nairobi. This was the end of a wonderful, amazing and adventurous journey, which included many valuable and constructive talks pertaining to the work of our society in Africa. |
