Successful Operation

Office of Foerderkreis Kenia Freudenstadt e.V., Germany. Updated version. Original English version first published September 30, 2009.

THE SOCIETY SPONSORED the successful operation on a Kenyan child from the rural Tana River district. Additonal medical check-ups are planned.

During our January 2009 visit to Kenya, Hermann S was introduced to us, a child born as a Siamese twin in 2002. After his birth, the separation of the twins unfortunately did not succeed with parts of the deceased twin's limbs remaining grown together with Hermann's body (left image). His parents being poor, the necessary medical examinations could not be financed by his family, a situation that got worse when his father died in 2008. For this reason, our society decided to pay for his operation in Mombasa, including the pre-operative examinations and follow-ups. We started a money-raising campaign for this operation that was also covered by the local press. The condition after the operation that took place at the end of July 2009 is depicted in the right image.

We thank all donors, and we do wish Hermann all the best for his future!

Our Participation in the Freudenstadt Africa Festival 2009

Office of Foerderkreis Kenia Freudenstadt e.V., Germany. Updated version. Original English version first published September 30, 2009.

THIS YEAR'S OPENING CEREMONY of the Freudenstadt Africa Festival took place June 27, 2009 with the participation of Bishop Zachariah Kahuthu, Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church (KELC), who had been invited by Foerderkreis Kenia e.V. Our society participated in the festival by presenting information on our work in Kenya. To this end, we set up several information billboards and pitched up our café tent in front of the town church, selling coffee and cake in order to support our work. Bishop Kahuthu held the evening service in the evangelical town church with part of the program being performed by other African guests. The following images were all taken on this day.
